I set up Creative healing in August 2014 after working 13 years alongside Children's Services for a private child care company called Fairways. As a registered social worker and qualified play therapist I managed therapeutic practice within the fostering department and consider myself very fortunate to have been part of such a lovely team for so long.
I was blessed to have met an inspirational lady in 2009 called Shalini Lilley who taught me how to offer a holistic and creative method of providing emotional support to children and their families during the Play Therapy UK MA programme. My practice has continued to develop and I am now accredited by the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapy (BACP) and offer regular therapeutic support to children, young people, carers, teaching staff and social workers.
I facilitate group supervision and deliver training to staff and foster carers and find interactive workshops the most effective way to explore sensitive subjects like attachment trauma, self harm or sexual abuse. My training has been influenced by Daniel A Hughes PhD who developed a way of working with people called PACE (playful, accepting, curious and empathetic) which compliements my play therapy background and Virginia Alxine's person centred Play Therapy model. I use Kim Golding's training resource Nurturing Attachments, because it skilfully combines theory with practice and empowers carers and parents by providing them with practical skills and emotional support.
I offer a range of play therapy and creative techniques to engage with my clients and experience has taught me to assess whether these need to be used in a non-directive (where the young person decides what to do), or directive (where I lead the way) or a mixture of both. This model is very effective for those who are unable or unwilling to talk about their problems but who would like to process them in a less threatening way.
I am also a spiritual person and have been trained as a Soul Wife by the visionary Felicity Warner. I find that her model of holistic palliative care compliments the support I provide to thoses who have suffered relational loss and trauma. I have written about my spiritual journey over the last few years in the article below.
